Hi there, folks - thank you so much for visiting!  If you are interested in finding out more about the Powell, Parham, Foster or Garrett families of South Carolina (Greenville, Simpsonville, Laurens, Easley, Pickens, Piedmont and Anderson) and Georgia (Hartwell and Elberton), you are definitely in the right place!

This blog is my opportunity to share the stories and the personalities behind the names and dates in my very southern family tree.  I will be diving deeper into some of the fascinating stories that I have discovered through the years about my lineage.  I will also be sharing the best tips and tricks that I have learned throughout my research journey, as well as my own slip-ups and the things that I wish I had done differently.  Hopefully, I can help you avoid the same mistakes that I have made!

My name is Melanie Powell Nowend.  I am a wife to an AMAZING and BRILLIANT husband, a stepmom to a sassy and spunky teenager, a mommy to four SIX (!) precious furbabies, a daughter, granddaughter, sister, niece, cousin, and aunt.  I am a Southern girl, born and bred, and my family has very deep roots in the southeastern United States.  I have been researching my family history for about ten years now, and it has become quite the addiction obsession passion of mine!
